Props to Big Tuego for alerting me of this

Here is the music video for the title track off Mitchy Slick's forthcoming album with DJ Fresh, Feet Match the Paint. Fans of either artist will recall that this album has been "coming soon" for several years now, so it's nice to see that it is finally dropping soon (April 23rd to be exact). DJ Fresh and Mitchy Slick's previous collaborations have been amazing, such as the anti-drug anthem "Mojo," with its busy mechanical beat that sounds simultaneously retro and futuristic. "Feet Match the Paint" sounds more like standard DJ Fresh, but it's still a great beat and Mitchy Slick's rhymes fit perfectly with the production's atmosphere.
Mitchy Slick's ad libs at the end of the song about waves and being woken up by them are hilarious and a distinct reminder to listeners that he is a resident of the lovely San Diego, California.
Am I the only one who finds it a bit weird to see a ganster rapper on the beach? I guess rappers play by a different set of rules down there in Southern California.
Did you know that Mitchy Slick's last official solo album was in 2006?!? That's a long time and I'm looking forward to hearing some new material from Mr. Slick.

Props to Chop Music for alerting me of this

Akron, OH's V12, who I guess is now going by the name "V12 Series" now, recently released his first solo music video and it is pretty fucking tight. If you are familiar with the Akron scene then you know what to expect here: raps about hard times in the streets over a dark and gloomy beat.
As far as I know, V12 has previously dropped only one other solo track, the excellent "See Me Everywhere" along with countless features from all the prominent rappers from Rubber City (that's Akron's nickname according to Wikipedia). V12 is a great rapper and manages to reference Michael Myers, Harvey Dent and the planet Pluto all in his first verse. I am especially fond of this line in the first verse: "Got that snow white like winter formal."

Fast forward 10 years and Brad in the bottom left corner is alone and still thinking about his Winter Formal date like "Damn dude, Cindy totally wanted my nuts that night, I CAN'T BELIEVE I didn't make that happen!" *Throws empty bottle beer across the room in his studio apartment that he sadly still calls his "bachelor pad"*

V12's voice and delivery are real unique: sounding like a cross between Scoob Nitty and Rich the Factor with his marble-mouthed stuttering flow. I guess I have developed a taste for weird rapper voices (no homo) thanks to all the unusual Bay Area rap deliveries out there.

I could see why some might accuse the Akron rap scene of all sounding a bit too similar, but I think there is something to be said for the cohesion within the region's music scene. Finding a niche for yourself and building upon the sound you are developing is much more admirable than switching it up every song. Kind of like how I do the exact same joke every time I'm at a Chinese restaurant where I act shocked and dismayed when I look at my fortune inside the fortune cookie and when someone asks me what my fortune says I state "it says 'the food was poisoned'?!?" It's gotten to the point where my girlfriend is extremely sick and tired of that stupid joke, but I still do it for my own amusement and she gives me a look like "why the fuck am I still with this loser?" The point is if you keep working within your lane you will continue to be delighted by the little subtleties that develop from telling the same joke or exclusively making street raps about being miserable and poor.

In other news, you guys should check out this new Bay Area rap blog: Mobb Reflectionz. It's written by Elijah of Mobb Report Radio, who I did a podcast with a month or so back. He is a chill bro and a good writer and it feels nice to know there is at least one other blog out there writing about Bay Area rap right now rather than just endlessly dumping new mp3s and youtube videos. Highly recommended!

Have a nice day.

What do you think of these songs/music videos????
